Ah!!The Yellow Pond Lily, the artist gathered the seeds in her canoe. The fruit contains a great number of small shiny seeds...roasted on top of the fire like popcorn or ground into flour much like the corn flour of the south, they formed a staple food which the Klamath Indians of North America called 'wokas'. Art and legends from the artist's book 'Flowers, Forests and Folklore' unpublished at this time. |
